well the wrap should make it slightly quieter....

but i dont want it to stain the exhaust since i would remove it after IVA since i dont like the look of it..

sorry, what i meant was "will it do anything to make the exhaust quieter",

im actually interested as mine is pretty loud too and i cant fit one of those sound deadeners to the can as it has a rounded end.

I was advised at SVA time that wrapping made a differance to the sound, like you I was very close to the limit (on my 2nd test!!) and I did anything and everthing to pass.

It did leave some staining but if you are not driving to the test and using a trailer then the actual running time with the wrap will be minimal, so you should be OK

You can polish off any staining. It tends to be the heat marking the stianless, rather than the wrap itself.

I wrapped mine from the collector box right through the cat and up the the silencer and managed to drop 4 dB for my second test.

If anything wrapping will make it noisier since it retains more energy within the exhaust gasses.

The only exception to this may be if you have very thin wall pipes that are resonating, when wrapping them would provide some damping.

I think it will stain whether driven there or not, however, you should be able to polish out any marks (as long as you can get to those marks!).

Diid you know you can get black as well as white exhaust wrap? I ddidn't check what colour your car is, but the black is slightly more attractive and usually costs the same...

The theory behind wrap is the the exhaust tube is warmer making the gases flow quicker.

But, I wouldn't think it would make much diffeence either way.

I would defiantly make sure silencer is up to temp.
- Whats the wall thickness of the silencer, wrap might take some rattle/transient noise out.

Other its beancans and wirewool up the exhasust time.
