bike carb trumpets?

We've just bought another set of ZX9R's for our 2.3 duratec - previous ones were older model with 40mm chokes and no TPS. These are 2001 with 41mm choke, wider spacings and TPS.

however they have arrived without trumpets. Are they necessary on bike carbs as they are on 40's? IIRC on the old carbs the trumpet length can affect tuning? I'm sure I've seen pics of peoples foam filter removed from bike carbs and no trumpets, but im not certain?

Yes trumpets will always affect carb performance.

The standard ones are quite stumpy, and are fitted with the rear end of the airbox which makes for a convenient way to mount your form filter.

If you have some same diameter pipe you can get trumpets from Maplin electronics for the back of speakers and fit it into the tube and then mount it on a back plate.

like craig says, they are part of the airbox assembly:

some pics (assuming you've got the same model of carb as me = CVR's )
