BOB Cosworth Engine

Im still hankering over a BOB cosworth engine, and would love to rebuild one and put it in the kit car!

Every time i see one, i get that wanton, stomachy feeling and my hand reaches for the credit card!

Is this wrong?

I could make a space for it that i dont really have, or i could focus my attention to what ive already got!!!

DON'T get one to rebuild!!!

Get one that doesn't need rebuilding!! They are dirt cheap anyway, and a great engine once you've sorted the camchain tensioner.

Rebuilding one is stupidly expensive, just the gasket set is around £300...............

Bin the airflow meter on a std one though and fit an aftermarket ecu, and some decent headers and they make around 270hp out of the box!





Retro RWD is the way forward...........automotive fabrication, car restoration, sheetmetal work, engine conversion retro car restoration and tuning

Theres an ebay shop selling gasket sets for £180.
What is the suitable alternative for the cam chain tensioner? I know they are plastic as standard.

I was thinking twin turbo BOB with Megasquirt.

There is a Bob in my local breakers with the loom that caught fire. Twice

Wants £150

Its the day of work and the work to take it out that put me off. I would do a mt75 hybrid to stick on the back.

The engine is huge, very tall.

for all your bespoke parts, ali welding, waterjet, laser, folding, turning, milling, composite work, spraying, anodising and cad drawing....

Could fit anything with enough enginuity.

I just fancy the pants off the cosworth V6!

I saw one in the flesh (just the block and heads, and i thought it was quite small in comparison to other V6 engines and nice and strong for 'Extra' modificcation.

Ive decided, im going to get one as a side project. Bottom end and heads.

So, if anyone has one kicking around, id be looking to pick one up for a bargain.

Once ive got it, i can measure it up and get it mated to a UN1 before rebuilding it. When its finished, id expect it to be a mint looking engine with twin turbo's so it might be too big to fit my current kit, but then ill have to build something else for it!! - Maybe a single seat dragster or track car.

looks like you may need some more flanges?

what did you reckon on that last one? that was cut on the waterjet.

Sorry Barry, i meant to drop you an email. Its certainly cleaner than laser i think, and it fits just as well. Thanks for that. Ive got three now!! - Ive used one and welded the pipe to it (roughly) to get the whole thing ready for last weeks kit car meet. Sprung an oil leak, but nothing too serious fortunately. Going to attack that tonight and try and find out where its leaking from!

Thanks again for your help. As you say, if i do get the BOB, then ill be needing exhaust headers and all sorts made. I was contemplating a Supercharger WITH turbo's to try and eliminate lag so again, that will need some work!

I bought it and am putting it in at the moment. Its not much heavier than the renault 25 engine i removed.

Have a word with Boosted LS1 on the PH forums... he's done a few turbo'd BOA's and BOB's. I had a conversation with him a while back about the weight and IIRC it was only a little less than a Small-Block Chevy V8!

Also, whilst the BOA was indeed a 'true' Cosworth engine, the BOB was not - it was made entirely by FoMoCo.

Yeh, hes expensive too.

I know the BOA was the true Cossie, but they both have the same block and internal dimensions. The differences are quite sketchy, but the BOB cams are better im told, and the camchains on the BOA live longer apparently.

Im not worried either way. With MS2.2 and tubular manifolds it should still see 230hp which is enough at 306hp/tonne.
Top Boss quote figures of 311hp with twin 7psi turbos and 460hp with 14psi of boost. Im guessing that some internal work will need to be done, but if it goes pop, then ill pick another one up.
At the moment, these engines are plentiful.
