non welded fuel tank fittings
i know this has been discussed before, i've tried searching 4 or 5 times and i'm not using the right terms.
I'm after a fuel tank fitting that bolts in. I know i've read about them - you drill a hole, hold a thread one side and twizzel the
fitting on the other - voila one fuel return.
Can anyone point me in the direction? I think they where aircraft based.

Thats the sort of thing - not keen on it being just a push in fitting though. Has anyone else got any links?

I've got one of those, but I've not run any fuel through it yet. The way I see it, if it's safe to be fitted to aircraft,
it's safe for us. You could always run a bead of sealant around it to be sure.

for some reason, with no engineering background, it doesn't seem right.
We don't just push on hoses, we push them on and clip them.
wondering about something like this with a copper washer to crush and then a barb made to fit into it.

Otherwise you can get tank fittings for cold water tanks that fit from one side only. Cost about £15 from BES (amongst others). You'ld then need
a 15mm to 8mm (or 10mm depending on your preference) adaptor.

I think I am just going to weld a barb into the sender plate.
I was looking at one for a tractor and thats how it was done.

I wouldn't use that with the gauze in it, it will likely be quite restrictive for the volume of fuel that goes through a return pipe considering
this is supposed to be an air vent.
Have you considered fitting a return into the filler neck of the tank (if possible)?

Still have the same problem - the steel is 0.5mm thick hence looking for a non welded solution.
Got home, put the tank in (its an old army surplus tank that is probably a land rover second fuel tank - under seat) and ......
IT DOESN'T BLOOMING WELL FIT!!!!!!
Need to have a think over the weekend what i'm going to do. May just get a couple of fittings, turn it on its side and use it like that for IVA,
tempted to try and fit the MGF fuel sender but that means i need a 3 or 4mm 15cm round plate welding to it somehow.
one day i'll learn to either make everything myself or just pay someone.

oooh, lots of people do those if you search on the product code (although all the same price - wonder who supplies them originally).
Ah, just read up - seems they're designed for water and air take off. Doesn't mention fuel anywhere - nervous with the rubber ring that
fuel will affect it and i'll be left without a seal.

They are designed for all sorts of uses and have been used very successfully for fuel returns in the past with no problems whatsoever; nytrile (the o
ring material) is in fact the material black fuel hose is made from....
