Limited slip diff.

How can I tell whether my car has a limited slip diff?

Just been replacing the speedo cable, and making a gearbox adapter for it.

Went to turn one back wheel with the other on the ground, and its very stiff to turn, with both off the ground they turn quite easily, both in the same direction.

I know jaguar used power lock diffs, wondered if one is fitted here??

as above, jack up and put it in gear, turn the wheel,if its not a lsd the other wheel will turn the other way.dont know about lockers but if it turns the same way it'd point at some type of lsd
Ps dont be fooled if it wasn't in gear the drag can turn the other the same way.

If it's in gear, the other wheel can only turn the opposite way, LSD or not. Well, unless you turn the engine over.

Yep, quite right

Depends on the type of LSD too, some are easy to tell, others are all but impossible.

The only real way to find out is to have the back off the diff or if it has an ID tag on it, crossreference it.

Thanks everyone, I'll have a look for the tag when it goes for MOT next month, but after 43 years, I think I'll be lucky if its still there...
