Dipstick level on RS2000 Sump

Chaps,

On Saturday I fitted an Alloy RS2000 sump on my Pinto. When I put the dipstick in the hole it hit the sump as stuck out the top of the pipe by 80mm.

I checked with Burtons and they said that the sump takes just under 4ltr oil, so I poured that in but it didn't register on the dipstick.

To get the dipstick short enough to fit the tube and just touch the bottom of the sump I had to cut the dipstick above the maximum mark that I used on the old sump.

I obvioulsy have no way of checking the level of the oil as with the correct amount in it doesn't touch the dipstick! (I can obviously drain it measure it and put it back in again in the short term).

So my question is, how have other people managed to measure their oil? (I could have cut a whole in the baffle plate for the dipstick to go through, but why should that be needed as you must have been able to have checked the oil on an RS2000.

Any help appreciated.

Mark.
