Fixing snags...
Apologies for posting this here on a new thread, the other was getting quite long...
So the replacement Pinto is in.
Checked and adjusted the timing and it runs lovely. So much better than the original engine and the Twin Dellortos sound fantastic. We checked the
camshaft on old one and it was visibly worn, so was losing some powere there.
Got a few issues -
* Leaking oil from the fuel pump where it goes into the block. Think I may need some gasket sealant for that - Is this normal for the fuel pump to
Block connection ?. (may do away with this eventually and go for a facet pump anyway.
* Need to sort out a oil breather system - will get an oil catch tank ordered for that.
* Still need to re-plumb the cooling pipes, and sort a T-piece possible for the pipe that went to the original manifold (which I dont have now
ofcourse.) - I guess this could be T'd into the Top Hose going into the Rad, or Just blank off... Would that harm ?
--- can someone tell me what I should do witht the Vaccuum pipe that goes from the Dizzy and used to go to the manifold?
Cheers All for the clutch advice - Good day yesterday and I learnt lots of stuff

Fuel pump - not normal, it should not leak. Simplest cure is to replace it as it has an internal oil seal that is not normally serviceable. Fit new
gaskets with new spacer block. JD
Vaccuum pipe - either replace the distributor with the correct non vaccuum type or just remove vaccuum pipe ( but this will mean that you will not
neccessarily get the right advance, it will always be a compromise.)
Beware of the Goldfish in the tulip mines. The ONLY defence against them is smoking peanut butter sandwiches.

Re: vacuum advance its been asked a few times:
http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/viewthread.php?tid=46834
a modified dizzy with the vacuum advance removed (and the mechanical advance altered) is the normal answer - from somewhere like H&H:
linky
this is effectivly a 2D map, it should work well, but won't give you the best MPG....
you can connect up the vacuum to your manifold, but you'll need to connect it to all 4 branches together in an expansion chamber then connect
that to the dizzy
but this doesn't always seem to work for everyone and your advance curves may not be exactly right for your modified engine anyway
so possibly the best solution would be a distributorless electronic system like megajolt (of course on a pinto you still need to keep the bottom half
of the dizzy to drive the oil pump)
this will give you a fully programmable ignition that you can tune to suit your engine and with a TPS will give you the 3D system that you lose when
you ditch the vacuum advance - and that should all cost less than a modified dizzy
(+ you can keep the MJ for any future engine swaps - e.g. its perefect for running a zetec on carbs )
This will give you an idea of what's involved in a MJ setup: linky (you can buy a pre-built
unit if you prefer)
