Top is for ecu bottom is the temp gauge on your dash. The ecu switched the fan on the zetec.

If your using the Mjl to switch the fan by an aux out put then you want the top sensor. Ford sensor isnt ideal for other ecu's.

Other Options

use a standard switch in the rad if you have one, Polo does.

Or put a switch and housing in the top line. Lma do a kit. Worked well on the zetec I was playing with Saturday.

i thought the temp gauge sender was always supposed to be in the top hose?
on my engine it was in the cylinder head.
shows the sort of 'worst case' temp as the bottom hose will be colder than the top as the water comes out the radiator and into the bottom hose?

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!
