Machining costs

I'd like to reduce the hight of my V8's stock plenum assembly by about 30mm. This is quite easy to do in theory: I'd need to get 16mm ground off the bottom of the cast ali trumpet base, 12mm off the top, and 2mm off the bottom of the plenum cover. In fact, some one has already done it, so I know it's feasible.

The question is, how much is this job likely to cost and is it a more expensive/specialised job when compared to skimming a cylinder head, for example? The volume of material to be removed is obviously much larger, hence more time consuming?

I've only asked one local engineering company so far and the gaffer was not at all keen to take my money, saying it would "end in tears" which seems rather extreme!

Adam did that to mine and no tears.

I just had about 1.5 to 2cm removed from the base only - done through a local macine shop for about £ 50 - 75 IIRC .

Did mine - I'll have a measure up tonight to see how much I took off.

Have a look in my archive there may be some pertinent pics in there.
