Pinto Valve stem oil seals

I rebuild by pinto head at the backend of last summer. It all ran fine then it start to puff a little bit of blue smoke.

On inspection one of the stem seals ridden half way up the value. It would explain the cause of the smoke.

Has anyone ever had this problem before?

I have always just pressed them into place and never used any "glue".

Thanks

Not heard of that with new seals, like you I just put them on and there they stay, is it just on one valve as it may be a duff seal?

what you will find is that when they get hot they swell slightly, normally it doesn't affect them but there are instances where they could get caught in the follower springs (where the follower springs have 2 springs not just one). the swelling can also cause the seal to fail which is what looks like what has happened in your case.

you can replace the valve stem seal with the head on. consult your bible (Haynes Manual) for further details
