Type 9 Front oil seal - I think

Hi

Seem to have oil leaking out of my type 9 from all over the place, but in particular from the very front - so assuming the front oil seal has gone.

So several questions

Can the box presurise at high revs so it's just forced oil out - and a top up will do?

If the front oil seal has gone, would it be safe (ish) to run it - assuming I top the oil level up during the day ( hill climb, so very little mileage )

Thoughts and general consensus required as not got the time to take the engine and box out before the next event..

Hi

It's not pouring out - about a tablespoon a day since the last gig - and the undertray catch's that, just a bit concerned about it and asking for thoughts.

You may be overfilling with oil, Ford revised the level due to smal leaks, I belive it should be 10mm below fill plug level and not dribbling out of the hole.

if its only leaking that much it should be ok if you keep an eye on the oil level there is always the possibility that if the seal is already damaged it coulf fail completely but I would think thats fairly unlikely. as for the box pressurising Ive seen competition cars with fairly complex breather/catch tank systems fitted to gearbox so it must be an issue in some cases. .m,.

Normal is getting dressed in clothes that you buy for work and driving through traffic in a
car that you are still paying for - in order to get to the job you need to pay for the clothes
and the car, and the house you leave vacant all day so you can afford to live in it.

Hi

Thanks all - had another look, it's the lower fill hole on ours, and there's evidence of leakage all over the place so looks like I need to investigate a breather...
So it'll be engine out a new set of seals and gaskets all round then - still it'll stop me getting bored
