You should connect the heater flow and return together, you can tap into the return for the header tank.
The pressure cap should be the highest point on the system.
You need to vent any high points on the engine, or radiator top fitting, to the top of the tank, there will be an 8 or 10 mm inlet for this, but
don't confuse it with the overflow.

You can block the heater outlet but you can not block the bypass out let.
The most simple system is the Raceline water rail. Its over £200.
Some people like it and some dont.
The rover 25 has a nice locost header tank.

I agree with Wasa, the raceline rail is the neatest way to go, I used one with no problems at all. It has a heater outlet, which you can just blank,
and tap into the bottom rad hose for the header.
Then vent either the stat housing, or rad top hose - whichever is higher, to the tank.

You need to put a tee piece into the bottom hose and connect the small outlet on the exhaust side to it, this is the bypass, the header tank also
needs the bottom outlet joined into this hose at some point along it.
There is a vent on the top of the thermostat housing , this needs to go to the top of the header tank assuming its the highest point or if not blank
it off and take an air bleed the top hose.
The heater outlet on the inlet side can just be blanked off.My zetec has ran like this for three years with no cooling problems at all.
You do need a header tank or else you will end up with air in the system, i think some people use the water rail and no header tank but it is not the
correct way to do it as there must be some expansion room.
