LRS707 starter motor help please!

I just offered up the LRS707 starter I bought from ebay, and it looks to me as though the pinion throw isn't long enough to engage with the ring gear.

I've got a 2l zetec silvertop, with a 1.8 flywheel and a type 9 gearbox. On my car, the distance from the mating face of the starter/bellhousing to the edge of the flywheel is 35mm, and the ring gear is around 5mm thick, so by my reckoning, the pinion needs to be 40mm from the mating face when it throws out. Does that make sense? Does anyone have any measurements / starters on the bench they can measure for me / recommendations for another starter?

Cheers

Adrian

Thanks wasa, now I'm in trouble! That's the same as the one I have, and it won't reach the ring gear on my flywheel. Has anyone else had this problem?

Mines the same as yours, the problem is for some reason my flywheel can't be in the same position as yours, as it's definately 35mm from the mating face to the rear of the flywheel. Don't suppose you know how far from the mating face your flywheel is do you, may help me to start tracking the problem down! Failing that, I may just burn the ba&£@d to the ground!!
