1600 zetec, help please

I am currently trying to get a 1600 zetec running right. I am having lots of trouble when the revs are low 800rpm-1800rpm. Then after that it revs happily away up past 5000rpm. The engine is in a vehicle and remains completely standard it is a 1.6 E Zetec SEFI (engine number LIH YK68275). When I purchased the engine it arrived on a pallet without a fly wheel. Upon ringing the breakers they promptly sent a flywheel but I suspect it is the wrong one (part number on the flywheel is 928M6398AG) the only thing I can think is the CPS is picking up in the wrong place.
Is it the right fly wheel and if not do you know if there is any variants available.

Hopefully someone else will confirm this, but i think if the engine was originally fitted with an auto gearbox then the manual flywheel might require a different CPS, simply to maintain the correct distance between tooth and sensor.

Having said that i would have thought it would either work or not....

Is there just a general reluctance to rev below 1800rpm?

It idles and runs evenly but when power is increased it will back fire through the inlet and cough until you raise the throttle up past 3000rpm.
Glad you said about the auto thing, I had not thought of that (which would explain why it arrived without a fly wheel, as that would have been left with the torque convertor in the gearbox. I have since spoken to a ford parts bloke and he say's it should have a 928M6K390 flywheel on that engine but mine has a
928M6398 AG fitted currently (what is the difference?). You cant get them misaligned as they only bolt up in one way but I am just scratching my head now. Surely that's all it could be?

It wouldnt fire if it had the auto sensor.

Look for air leaks. There is lots of pipe work that can come of the manifold.
