fitting bike carbs or bike throttle bodies there is a difference in what you will need to run it and if injection it will need mapping

It's not obvious at all.

If your van is subject to post 93 emissions test at MOT time then I doubt if you are going to pass with the engine on carbs.

Bike carbs don't like to much fuel pressure, it is recommended to fit a bike fuel pump or a fuel pressure regulator such as a Malpassi filter king.
You will need a manifold made up and don't forget the vacuum take offs for the servo.
Throttle cable linkage is usually fairly simple, just cut off the original cable end and use a screw on nipple.
Choke cable may need re routing

converting to carb is simple really have a manifold made to suit your carbs (ZX9's are okay) buy an ecu Megajolt, find an EDIS unit make a loom and fit simples.

Or Buy my twin webbers GEMS ECU Fuel Fump, Regulator, wiring loom and Manifold all set up for a 1.8 zetec before I split and put them on ebay

Welcome Dan, bike carbs on a 1.8 zetec is dead easy. All you need is a set of carbs and a Megajolt.
Then manufacture an inlet to suit the carbs and your there with 165bhp.

Check my blog below as that's how I got my 7 build and through SVA.

Ignition can be found through an early Ford ecu if you have the right information.

If you need any more info give me a shout (u2u)

Regards,
Steve

Thanks for the welcome just had a look on ebay for a megajolt kit and this is what i have found.
Complete Megajolt 3D ignition system for Zetec engines on eBay (end time 03-Nov-10 06:26:14 GMT)

would that be the one i should be getting ?
Another question, what bike carbs will be best suited for my engine.
Thanks Dan.

you should buy my megasquirt setup, will do all the megajolt will do plus it does fuel injection and comes with TB's etc. Bolt on, map it and done, more or less!
slightly tongue in cheek. Do not assume mapping fuel injection, or indeed setting up bike carbs, is as easy as many would have you believe. Not unkown for people to kill their engines when things go all weak and melt pistons But it can be done, would always want to use a lamba sensor to check, or have a session on the rollers.

That is the Megajolt who need, however I think you may find it cheaper elsewhere on the www. If you can solder theres kits available from the states.

This is the site for the peeps who developed it:
http://www.autosportlabs.net/MegaJolt_Lite_Jr._-_A_DIY_Programmable_EDIS_Ignition_Controller_-_Users_Welcome!

Tons of info there.

Re: carbs, I would go for ZX9R, get the ones with the TPS on them ZX7R are alos the same or even ZZR1100. These all have 40mm chokes and work well on a zetec. I recommend these as thats what me and the other lads round here use with great success.

I bought mine off ebay and the passed SVA without any jetting. Set up later by Bogg Brothers they gave excellent power and economy.

Yup,

I've got zx9r's on a homemade manifold and megajolt on my 2.0 zetec.
As said by Coozer they are used, with great success by a few of us round here.
