DIY Air filter?
Iv been looking at options to use a smaller air intake than the standard XJS one i have atm. I looked on fleabay for a cheap universal cone filter but
they all seem to just fit up to 76mm diameter intakes and mine is 85 (ish) mm. I was thinking about using a reducer but as the width of most cone
filters is wider than the part that attaches to the untake, its still going to be just as wide as the stock one.
Is there any kind of DIY way of making an air filter. Attaching a sock or something?

You might find something in the K&N catalog (they do loads of sizes). It's on line somewhere. It has tables with the info you need.
for example:
linky
Goes up to 6inch ID...

Thanks Dan. Iv had a look on there and found a couple that should fit but the problem is that the outside diameter is nearly as much as the one i have
at the moment. If i can find one with an outside diameter almost the same as the flange, i can get away with not having a bonnet scoop.

or e-bay
air filter universal large
you can buy foam from there and build any shape that you like (probably better than an old sock).
or item 250727114419

No prob, they also do offset ones?
You might get over the clearance issues could you not move the filter with a bit of plumbing? Ali tube+short silicone/rubber hose might do you?
You might even be able to mount it in "coldair" in the nose cone?

My intake hose is also 85mm. CBS sell (or they did when i was building) a universal cone type that went up to 85mm.
I will see if i still have the invoice.

If its just the IVA your worried about then why not do without an air filter air filter until its passed and then fit the one you have or another of
your choice without having to worry about the size.?

That might be a good idea. I was a bit afraid of induction noise putting it over the 97 db limit but after Stu (locostbuyer83) came over and mentioned
the other day that mine is really quiet, it may not be too big of an issue.
Thanks guys.
