Engine Swap

OK, who is the authority on engine swaps?

What is involved with changing from a 2l pinto on a type 9 5-speed box to a 2l Blacktop Zetec on the same box?

Cheers.

Its been done many time John and is a pretty straight forward
swap.A 1.8 flywheel and mondeo 1.8 clutch.A ct133 release bearing
and a sierra cvh or twincam starter(though i have a pinto starter on my
2.0 zetec,with a 14mm spacer fitted between it and the bellhousing}
You will need to fabricate an alternator mount and a pair of engine mounts.
That lot will get it in,then you need to sort out what you are doing for management.
I am using megajolt and zx9r carbs on a home made manifold.

Forgot to add, that you need to shorten the tin part of the sump and the pick up pipe.

Simples

Andy

Nice one Andy

I've already got a set of ZX9-R carbs I was going to fit at sometime to the Pinto, but I reckon they would do a better job on the Blacktop

Sounds like a job even I could manage.

More research methinks, give me another task over the XMAS break, cetainly won't be going anywhere until this snow thins out a bit

What sort of improvement can I expect on the Pinto power?

John,

I upgraded from a 2.0 pinto on zx9's to my current 2.0 zetec and the difference was huge.
I certainly dont regret the swap,in fact i'm now building a 2.0 blacktop with a turbo

You wont regret it either.

Andy

Funny, Mooklaoid and myself have just the exact swap and fitted my blacktop today, pictures in my gallery below of the bits I've made and how I've done my mounts. Has been a full day and still lots to do before the video but I'm sure it'll be worth it.

Cheers

Rich

Hi Andy, hope you're ok, haven't seen you for ages.

Think so, will have to see what will fit and also has the correct thread, I also have a sandwich plate for a cooler but wont be putting that in unless I know it needs it, might be too tight on space for that too, we'll have to see. Have made a bit of a duct to cover up the old exhaust hole as it came through my side panel which is still to go on which may make the oil cooler too efficient!

Alternator bracket looks a bit tight at the moment using the pinto alternator which is a right royal pita, at least she's in, just got to save up for hoses now!

Anyway take care and John any q's ask away whilst it's still fresh in my mind.

Cheers gang.

Rich

P.S Happy Christmas to you all.

Cheers Rich

If I get the engine (which I hope I will) then I will be looking to get as much input as I can (and output!! lol!).

Merry XMAS and Happy New Year to all too

John

Rich,

I'm good mate, how about you?newark was the last time,so yes its been a while.
Zetecs dont like oil coolers, the oil needs to be over 100 degrees, otherwise the motor
will wear realy quickly.
I split my steering shaft and used a rose joint and two u/j's.It let me use a standard filter.
