Just get the correct part number and go back to ford

as far as i'm aware the 1.6 and 1.8 silvertops dont have the under piston jets, they are only fitted to the 2 litre engines.

May end up opening a can of worms here as myself and robocog believe the 1.6/1.8 oil pumps may be different from the 2 litre for this reason.

Were actually only talking about this on sunday morning, rob is disecting an old 2 litre pump some time soon to check.

Also Rob (robocog) may well have the part number "if you require" for the jets as i am sure he purchased some for the 2 litre.

Astronomically priced IIRC
I bought a set of 4 in trying to solve my "Zetick"

They didn't have them in stock
They had more than 1 sort
They couldn't tell me which ones mine had (by reg plate and VIN from donor)
They would only order them in if I paid upfront and they were a non returneble or refundable item if they were not the right ones! (bit harsh)

I went home and thought about it and eventually caved in - luckily they fitted!
(unfortunately was a waste of dosh as I still have the ticking)

I should in theory have a set of 4 here ...somewhere in the piles
Bob will testify that my kitchen/diner is pretty well floor to ceiling with "bloody car and motorbike stuff" till my garage gets put up and the chances of me stumbling across them is pretty remote at the moment

I'm also 100% sure I kept the receipt/invoice with part numbers so can only advise which ones I fitted to a 2 Litre Silvertop Phaze 1 (am I right Bob or was it a Phaze 2? IIRC it had DOHC rather than Zetec cast into the cam cover) and can let you know what they cost me- when I find the folder I put them in

As Bob has pointed out I am fairly convinced that there /must/ be a difference between the two oil pump types (more than just the angle and length of the filter oulet) especially as the 2 litre blocks have the "different pump" and as far as I'm aware are the only ones with the under piston jet sprayers...coincidence??
Hopefully opening up the 2 pumps will reveal larger internals on the 2 litre or something as I really want to get rid of the ticking once and for ever and my hopes are pinned on the original pump (which doesnt fit because the steering column is in the way) fixing my problem ...because it has a bigger flow/higher pressure ...whatever

The only common "oily" parts I used between the 2 identical engines (both 2 litre) were the oil pump. sump and pickup pipe
(Ok I also used the same water pump, but cannot see how that would affect it)
Both engines when up to temp have a "tick" coming from exhust side and seems to be 1st or second cylinder in so I know which tappets are causing the issues, and swapping to a new set and also re-swapping to a random order made no odds- same tick same place :-(

I'm not really going to be able to pull my engine again for the comparison till garage is up and I have made this place a bit more baby friendly (lots of DIY required!)

Regards
Rob

I wouldn't bother with the oil jets, I had a couple of 1.8s with 2 litre cams in my car and neither had the oil jets.I had problems with the hydraulic lifters pumping up and causing misfires and also had oil consumption problems with both engines although the performance was good.I eventually changed to a 2 litre black top and have had no further problems and would just put in a blacktop engine if I was you.
If you need an early engine for IVA then i would just transfer the engine number from the 1993 engine.

Do you know if they used the same oil pump that they used on the 2l on that engine combo?

My engine was that spec and I never fitted them and had no problems apart from the engine was already well worn and despite this it refused to blow up no matter how hard it was driven, I also wondered about the oil pump keeping up as the jets would surely flow a reasonable amount of extra oil.
