Zetec SE or Vauxhall 16XE

Does anyone have any experience of either of the above engines in a rwd context? What would be needed bellhousing / flywheel / clutch / work wise to mate up to a Type 9?

ETA - The other possible option would be the 1.8 from a MK1 MX5. Would it be possible to get a propshaft made up to go from the Mazda box to the Ford diff? I've just had a look at the gearing on this and it would seem ok with my current 3.62 LSD

I've just started converting my Striker from xflow to c16xe power.
I was lucky enough to get a bellhousing secind hand on one of the Ford related forums.
You'll need a sump and pick up pipe - had a steel 8 valve one converted by Bill Falconer - he does a complete kit, bellhousing, sump, exhaust etc. Check his website

Also you'll need a spigot bearing for the crank and there are numerous clutch/flywheel combinations.Standard flywheel (either pot type or flat face) and cover with Ford compatible clutch plate, or a steel flywheel (again pot or flat) from either SBD or TTV with Ford compatible plate or a 7 1/4 inch paddle set up.

Click on Flywheels and choose vauxhall/Opel

I'm actually on my way back from Bill Falconers to West Wales having given him my motor to rebuild - very happy with the service and he's a genuinley nice bloke to deal with

Hope this helps some

Mazda MX5 power is all good.

I shortened the sump, which is cast Aluminium, and modified the intake path from airbox to throttle body. Otherwise it works very well.

The manufacture of a propshaft was relatively simple. I bought an MX5 shaft and had it shortened and fitted with the appropriate UJ (Escort Live axle in my case).

My recent experience with the Zetec SE (changed the one in my Focus) is that it's relatively fragile, can drink oil if you find a bad one (difficult to tell from good ones apparently) and can't be rebored.

It also requires special tools and jigs to remove and refit the bearing ladder - so special that only the Ford FACTORY has them.

As Rich J says, only refinements I would add are go for the flat flywheel not the pot one, steel ones are around £120 so not too bad (get one from autosprint not SBD)

Spigot bearing is vauxhall part no. 90105743 and they are a couple of quid from vauxhall
