starter motor engaging
I just had one dumb question on starter motors. Do the spin up, slide up the central spindle thing , engage and then drop back down again once turned
off. Im sure on my pinto it just engaged straight in upon fitment.

When you turn the key this energises the Starter solinoid and fires the bendix into the teeth of the flywheel. When the car fires and you release the
key back to the run position the bendix is disengaged and returned to its "rest" position away from the teeth of the flywheel. If it
doesn't disengage the starter motor would burn out.

IIRC the old plastic pig invalid carriages had them or at least a starter/generator . They may have used a Sach single cylinder engine ? Other than
that I can't think of any unless some of the very early Honda cars like the S800 used them?
