Dismantling A Ford distributor

Morning All,

I need to make a blanking plate your my distributor hole on the side of the block (Pinto for those who don't know) i have started taking an old dizzy apart so that i can use the shaft from inside but i have come to a bit of a stumbling block. I have managed to take most of the internals out apart from the pieces right at the bottom. There seems to be something preventing me from taking out the bottom part of the internals which is linked to the cog that drives the oil pump.

Anyone know how to get this part of the internals out, i would imagine once released the shaft should just side out from the casing?

All the best

Alex

I love Pinto's, even if i did get mine from P&O!

from memory isn't there a roll pin though the shaft at the bottom somewhere on the outside (I'll dig out some books later...)

I take it you making an oil pump drive - I got one made for me by the guys at H&H in strait swap for some old dizzys that they needed - I'll dig out a pic later if you like
or are you going for a dry sump instead

btw - is it a bosch one (orange cap) or a motorcraft one (black cap) ? (not sure if it make much difference)
and is it a points type or an electronic one ?

looks like its an old electronic one. a mate has just dry sumped his 2.4 pinto and its cost him nearly £2000 so i think a wet system will be more than adequate for what im going to be using it for!

i'll knock the roll pin out nad see what happens, im thinking that the internal shaft will need cutting in half anyway

roll pin on the bottom cog, needs to come out
cog pushed, off, then the shaft will fall out

on mine, when i did the same mod, i machined the wider part of the body off, an used the platform it left to mount my coil pack

I'd love to give my imaginary friend a great big hug,

but this jacket makes it impossible.
