Carb Question

I apologise for asking loads of questions lately, but I'm sooo close to first start that it hurts! and don't want to bugger anything up by rushing.

I have 2 carbs to choose from, both are off Sierras I think and are an unknown quantity as far as condition of internals etc..

One is the Weber 2V and the other is the Weber DGAV (autochoke).

The 2V seems to have more pipeline than the Middle East, and I really think is probably too complicated for the locost.

The DGAV seems a little more sane, but still has the pipework which is to do with the distributor advance I believe.

My question is, what issues can I expect and what is the best way to choose/fit/connect? (OK that was 2 questions )

I know there will be lots of 'fit throttle bodies, bike carbs etc.' but I just want to use what I've got and get the thing running.

Thanks

JB

DGAV and a can of easy-start. Get the thing running with squirts of the E-S and then try and lean it off onto real petrol...

I'm not sure what engine you're putting the carb on, but the VV was a renowned PITA as far as tuning was concerned, whereas the DGAV was/is a very good carb (you can still buy them new).

I had a DGAV on my 1660cc crossflow for 7 or 8 years and it worked very well.... I changed to bike carbs because I wanted to up the performance (and a certain amount of bling factor!). The DGAV still beat the bike carbs in one or two respects.

If you can get hold of a copy of "Rebuilding and tuning Ford's Kent Crossflow engine" by Peter and Valerie Wallage you find that it contains a chapter on overhauling a Weber DGAV 32/36.

DGAV that's what I use and it rocks. Good fuel consumption and good power with no flatspots. Very simple to fit and plumb.

Chuck the other one in the bin it’s just an emissions compromised waste of time

Thanks for the advice guys

I had a good rummage through the Haynes book of wishful thinking and apparently they are both '2V' but the one is a 2V (28/30 DFTH)and the other is a 2V (32/36 DGAV) so my first statement was a bit mis-informed But you guys oviously knew what I meant.

So it looks like the DGAV it is then, I think I am going to slightly alter the cooling pipework so as to allow connection of the extra stuff that is connected to the carb. I was going to connect the small pipe on the water pump to the lower pipe on the expansion bottle, but now I think I will connect it to the carb/manifold run and connect the lower expansion bottle pipe to the small pipe on the thermostat housing.
