There's an 'ole in my upright.

Sierra front upright question...

On the donor uprights I've got, there is a hole on one side. Down this, you can see a toothed plastic wheel inside the hub itself, which turns as you rotate the hub.

Adjacent to the hole is a tiny screw hole. It looks as though there should be some sort of seal or cap over the larger hole, which is held in place by a screw.

What's supposed to be in this hole? Grease? Oil? What sort? How much? Where do I get the cover from & what's it called?

Can't find mention of any of this anywhere - Haynes manual, this site, even the interweb.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

You may get a better response by re-posting in the suspension/running gear section.

ABS reluctor ring will be the toothed wheel the hole will be for the sensor.

ETA just re read the post and if the wheel is plastic then it'll not be the abs as it would be metallic

If it looks wrong it probably is wrong.

sounds like the ABS sensor hole to me - a pic would confirm it

if it is the ABS sensor hole then the toothed ring is actually on the washer that holds the hub together - so that hole is into the same space as the wheel bearings and any grease in there is for the wheel beaing (i.e. high temp LM grease)

obviously you can't leave this open (not if you want the bearings to last anyway) I made some alloy plugs for mine (then changed my mind and sold the hubs to someone on here - so these are the only pics I've got)
