Recommend me a kit-car friendly mobile mechanic

For those who read my previous post a few weeks ago you'll have seen I've hurt my back (suspected prolapsed disk).

My car is in the garage having emptied the contents of the radiator on the floor. I'm not sure if its a split hose or the radiator thats caused the problem.

My back is so bad I can't work on the car to even diagnose the fault and can't see myself being able to fix it any time soon as the bending over is much too painful.

I was booked on a Brands Hatch track day next week which has now been rescheduled for July. In the vague hope I might be fit enough to drive it then I need to get the car sorted out and back on the road.

I was going to take the opportunity to replace the sierra rad with a polo rad, change the hoses and do a few little tidy-ups like replace the transmission tunnel and re-do the rear boot box.

Can anyone recommend me a mobile mechanic in the Crawley, West Sussex area who might be able to do some of this stuff for me while I'm laid up?

You have my sympathy
two years ago I had a sevire prolapsed Disc
Had a MRI scan on the monday and was rushed through and opperated on by the friday

Was off work for 7 weeks
Worst bit after op was not allowed to sit in a chair or drive for 4 weeks had to be either laid down or stood up

still get twinges now and again but lots better now I can stand up straight.

Get plenty of rest, lay flat on your back as much as possable.
Don't sit in armchairs (they are bad)

Doctors will tell you that a trackday should be avoided aleast for 8 -12 months

I was close to being parralised from waist down for the rest of my life

Don't take this injury lightly, it can be serious

Demand a MRI scan, you can do this don't let the doctors fob you off

Get it sorted Sod the car for now

All the best

Thanks for the advice. I am taking it easy.

Waiting on the MRI scan now, might go private (£200-£300) if I don't get a date fairly quickly.

Still hoping its a muscular problem but I've had it 4 weeks now with regular trips to the Osteopath and its worse than ever.

Got bad sciatica right down my left leg which is sometimes far too painful to move.

I won't risk the track day if it's not right. If this is the case someone on here might get a track day bargain come early July for an open pit lane, Brands Hatch Indy Circuit.

Don't think it will be a muscular problem I had trips to the Osteopath and it got worse also.

I also got bad sciatica right down my left leg

Get on to your doctor they can pull strings if they are pushed and get your MRI scan sooner

If I was closer I would Help you but too far away

Re your back: Don't go near osteopaths or chiropractors! Go and see your doctor and ask for nerve painkillers (pregablin/lyrica) and enjoy the wierd dreams they give you instead. I was on 2 walking sticks and 36 pills a day at one point (codeine, lyrica, diclofenac, diazepam, & paracetomol) but I ended up went to hospital in an ambulance when mine got so bad I couldn't do anything, and got an MRI the next morning. Within a few weeks I was offered paravertebral steroid injections via a 20 minute 'operation' which fixed everything within a couple of weeks, followed by physio for a few months afterwards. I still get bad days, but I can now do most things if I'm careful.

Good luck with it, and you'll be back working on the car by the end of the year.
