Stylus exhaust manifold- Zetec?

Hello all.

I'm after a zetec exhaust manifold for my early Stylus. I can't afford to have one custom made and I can't weld- do any owners on here know where to get a half decent one from? I like the look of the Fury Sports Cars and RAW ones, but I'm not sure if they fit on the Stylus chassis, which is slightly wider than a Fury I'm lead to believe. Steve at Fury is unsure also, and RAW haven't got back to me yet. Suggestions from any Stylus owners on here would be appreciated! I would just measure it but the engine isn't in the car yet.

Thanks.

Craig

I haven't posted on JPSC, their over zealous spam filters mean my registration requests never get through! I've just tried again so fingers crossed. I've asked on clubstylus but they're being a bit quiet, other than someone giving me the lengths/diameters to get one made.

Shinda I've seen that one, but its clearly not equal length which makes me wonder how much thought has gone into it!

If you want perfect precision and equal length then I feel you might have to pay for a custom one to be made. Other than that I have no idea of one that would fit the stylus off the shelf. You might be very lucky and find the Kit spares one fits, but i think that would be very lucky.

Maybe I'm expecting too much? I just thought that if you were going to make manifolds for kit cars, where people value performance above most other things, you'd design equal length appropriately long primaries whilst you were at it. Maybe thats just me though- does it even make that much difference?

I might get hold of a RAW or Fury one, and if it isn't wide enough get someone who's handy with TIG to extend it, unless anybody has any better ideas?

If anybody is interested I've just spotted this on se7ensport's duratec conversion thread, I might give Quantum a call. I could probably just get a mild steel one as the manifold won't be visible on my car, should save a few £££'s!

As per my thread, have a chat to Quantom for a manifold as it cleared my chassis with ease.

In all likelihood a manifold of most seven style cars will fit, then it is just a case of deciding on size of silencer; if your car is already on the road and you don't plan on track days you can get away with a 4inch inside the sill (still a fire hazard though), if you have yet to register your car or you plan on trackdays then a 6inch will likely be needed to meet db levels, this means cutting the sill out to expose it. The cheapest 6inch silencer i could find that did the job was from Plays Kool, £255 delivered.

You will then need a link pipe with a step in it to clear the chassis, see my wanted thread: link pipe You will only know the dimensions once you have cut bodywork and lined everything up.

Re: Clubstylus, pretty useful site for car specific questions, just not a lot of traffic through it.

I think I will- the one on your car looks good! Did you ask for a 4-2-1 or is that just how they do them?

The car is already on the road, but on a 1.3 x-flow. The Zetec is clearly going to be quite a bit louder kicking out nearly 3 times the power, so probably a good shout about the silencer! Its currently a 4 inch can I think, with a small strip cut out underneath it. It could definitely do with some more removing so I'll probably follow what stylussprinter and others have done on the clubstylus forum and cut a decent sized hole in the sill.

I spotted your post about the link pipe. I'll keep my eye on it so I know where to get one- thanks.

Where did you get your engine mounts by the way? Are they a fairly standard 'locost' component (albeit yours are duratec obv), or Stylus specific? Wish I had a welder, would make life a lot easier!

Quantom supply 4-2-1 for the Duratec.

Engine mounts were a mix of existing pinto ones with new engine plates. Took a bit of realigning as the height and angles didn't work, once I had them where I wanted them I marked them up and took to a local welder to finish.

That said I would be very surprised if Fury mounts wouldn't work for you, the chassis is near identical (I have a Fury roll bar), I think the changes were to geometry rather than engine mounting points etc... I would expect the Fisher manifold to easily fit as well.
