MT75 v MTX75

We all know that the MT75 doesn't have the best ratios. (from my homework tonight it appears that 1st is as low as 3.89:1 for a 2.0 8v Scorpio - I don't know how typical that is as an example.).
Also from tonight's homework it looks like a 2.0 Mondeo has a 1st gear ratio of 3.21:1 (if my sums are correct - but it is very late!).
My question is this: If (as I understand) the MTX75 is based on or derived from the MT75, is it possible to use some/all MTX75 clusters in an MT75?
I'm sure I can't be the first to have this idea, so I look forward to being shot down in flames

It would be good if it did. The standard 1st is a bit low, but then nearly all standard 1st gear ratios from road cars would be.

I just had a look at a section through the MTX75 in a mondeo haynes manual. I think I must have been dreaming thinking the internals of the 2 boxes were similar. It looks like the only thing they share is "75" in the name. (& they both have syncro on reverse).
Never mind, worth a look
