Spigot bearing

Evening all.

I may have just been a clot (again). I've just driven a spigot bearing into the end of my zetec, and without thinking I hammered it all the way back to the shoulder in the end of the crank.

So, have I mucked it up and I need to get it out again, or can it stay where it is?

Thanks!

I rather think i depends which gearbox you are intendint to use.
However, if it must come out; trim a piece of wood until it is a good fit, pack the bearing with grease and insert the wood with a sharp blow. The bearing should pop straight out.

Regards
Jon

Good point, lack of detail! Sorry, posted when I was a bit annoyed with myself. It's a type 9.

Does anyone know how far the input shaft is from the mating face of the engine/bellhousing? I've measured that the bearing outer face is about 13mm (gearbox direction) from the mating face. I've just googled some technical drawings, they're all low quality but the input shaft and bell housing seem almost level. Maybe I should stop being such a wuss and get on with it....

Edit: found a proper image, might be useful to someone else http://locostbuilders.co.uk/upload/Type9_drw.GIF

It should be flush with the end of the crank.
