1.8l zetec with 2.0l cams
can i fit 2.0l cams form a zetec blacktop to my 1.8l zetec blacktop head?
will it make any difference at all?
i can get the cams for free and i am having my head apart for it to be skimmed so is it worth doing?

If in doubt, give it a clout

2.0 cams should up the power from 115 to 130 bhp.

The 2.0 cams in a 1.8 was a common and well known upgrade for the Silvertop which was cheap and worked. It was simple, all you needed were the cams
and matching hydraulic followers from the 2.0 (without the matching followers you would probably wipe out the cams - unless you used new ones) and
several hours in the garage.
With the Blacktop its not quite that simple. Although in theory it should work I have never seen any documents that show that the 2.0 Blacktop cams
are superior to the 1.8 ones, if they are similar the work would be a waste of time. Also the Blacktop has solid followers which would like the
Silvertop need to be carried over from the donor engine but would also need shimming to the correct clearances. This takes hours and you need to
accurately measure which shims you need to buy.
Considering the time involved and the possibility of limited gains I would bite the bullet and buy a set of either Piper or Kent cams - or fit a 2
litre engine which are available cheap enough.
What on earth are rails.

I have them in my standard 1.8 silvertop with ZX9 carbs and got 146 bhp on the dyno which I thought quite impressive.

Some people call them rails some people call them carriers, there just the bits that hold the cams in place

The caps are line bored and matched to the head and should stay with the head.
