xflow pistons

Has anyone fitted non ford pistons into a xflow? I heard that vauxhall pistons can fit, but can't find any information on google. Anyone successfully experimented with lightweight and locost pistons?

You have to have dished pistons as that is where the combustion chamber is
Also relevant is how the gudgeon pin is retained, interferance of circlip and what size it needs to be to fit the small end
Most fit 1300 Crossflow pistons in a 1600 to raise compression and ARP bolts to the rods

I have read about 1.3 xflow pistons in the 1.6, but I was wondering if anyone has tried smaller lighter pistons in the xflow (the ford pistons are huge and weigh quite a lot!). I was told Vauxhall pistons can be made to fit, but can't find any information on this.

They are huge and heavy because of the "Heron" head design, where the combustion chambers are part of the piston crown. This is the same design that most direct injection diesel engines use, which also have huge heavy pistons.

A conventional flat topped piston with the flat cylinder head will give a very poor combustion chamber shape, so whilst the piston may be lighter the engine will be making less power and/or consuming more fuel. The early crossflows had a shallow combustion chamber in the head and flatter pistons, but that design was dropped pretty quickly.
