Hi there

I rebuilt a Megablade a few year ago.....great cars!

Checks.....

1) Genuine Megablade or conversion? The geniune Megablade chassis will have the crossbrace engine mount and the pick ups for the reverse box.
2) Westfield reverse boxes...known to spit the oil out (not a real concern, just not the best design) and the drive flages can come loose. So if it does have Westfield reverse box ask when it was last topped up with oil and check that the drive flanges are tight and no play in the bearings (though they can be replaced easily enough)
3) Some Megablades had lightwight bodywork (mine did) but it is prone to more gell coat cracks. Some also had the lightwieght chassis and I've seen some of these crack..... they are not warranted by Westfiled and suppied as race only chassis.
4) Engine, check it pulls smoothly throughout the rev range (check if it has a dynojet kit), some have the foam filter fitted, others like mine used the standard airbox, but rotated 180 degrees.
5) Some of the standard builds used Facet fuel pumps and regulators which can flood the carbs, again mine did and I converted back to use the bike fuel pump.

Otherwise usual checks....

Hope this helps and good luck!

Cheers

Ian

Thanks Ian, most helpful, the chassis is a lightweight and the car has a Westfield reverse box.

These are valid and ones I will check, it does have an original air box and not the foam piper cross design.

Never had a bike engined car before hence I am a little nervous, but very keen to have a go at owning one.

I have an indy with a 919 blade in it

they seem to be very strong engines! the only time mine died was when the sump plug rattled out

when you drive it you will know straight away if there are any major issues.

one thing I check with mine quite often (every 4months or so) is the carb balancing, they seem to wander now and then and are fairly sensitive, theyre a peice of wee to balance up though with a carb balancer (around £40)

other than that, i keep fresh oil in and its been fine
