Car engine to bike engine conversion

Is there any common problems when car engines are changed to bike engines (MK Indy: 1800cc Pinto to a 928cc Fireblade unit)

And what should i look out for when buying one

Common problems:

Loom is different for engine ancillaries though not by much depending on engine.
Propshaft is different - mostly longer.
Exhaust comes out on the nearside - some; if not most CEC exhaust on the offside - maybe new side panel.
Dashboard may need altering due to replacement clocks to accomadate higher rev's of engine.
Engine cradle will be different - will need different chassis mounts.
Spring ratings (front) may need altering, reducing.
Gearlinkage will be different - BEC only move backwords and forwards - no side gate - therefore tunnel top may need amending.

I think that about covers it - I'm sure there will be some more but it's getting late

Engine change is a radical change - things appear and disappear a lot quicker - and with a lot more noise.

Things to watch for on engine's - obvious engine casing damage (most engines have been dropped) any repairs done to try to hear the engine running. Get as many bike engine related bits as you can afford. Mismatching rarely works... ie original clocks, regulator's, ECU all sensor's etc.

Most popular engines: Honda Fireblade, R1, ZX9, Hayabusa, ZX12... they seem to be the most popular one's. The blade's seem to be most popular but R1's are making a very strong contender lately!

What's prompted you to consider changing Ray?

Hi Ray

I have seen tims car many times and if you want an opinion i would say that if i was in the market to buy one i would buy it!
The car is very clean and well put together and very well looked after,i have never seen it dirty at all.
it goes very well (quick) and sounds great and when i last saw tim my only comment was he was selling it far to cheap compared to the other examples out there and i have seen and spent alot of time and money touring the country looking at them before i bought mine!
to be honest i was at one point going to sell my car and buy tims once i new it was for sale
i would say that it would be well worth the trip and buy it you wont be disapointed

Ray,

we've seen a few bike engined MK's and I can honestly say that Tim's is one of the finest examples of a Blade engined MK you're likely to find. It looks and runs really well, having been professionally tuned and mapped by BEC specialists - Holeshot Racing.

If you're still not convinced, his lad reckons he drives it like a girl - so basically it's had one careful lady owner.

Had a go in a BEC recently, athoirs Fazer MK Indy and the rush power compared to most cars is unbileavable, and also the noise has made me go for the BEC as oposed to the CEC.

Tims car looks nice from the pics and the feedback for it is good, he is going to hold the car for me until i can come down and view it , which is kind of him (sometime in the next two weeks as i need to get time off work and i stay in glasgow, so its a bot of a trip)

Again, cheers for all the help
