Pinto and DHLA's - got me stumped !!
Hi All,
Wonmdering if anyone can help with a problem that is driving me mad.
Almost got all the way through the build using just the 'search' facility (seems you have all 'been there, done that). Great source
of advice and tips, thanks to all the unsung heros.
I've got a 2.0 pinto in an MK Indy, the engine has been stripped, checked, reasembled with a new cam and followers. Supplying the fuel are twin
40 DHLA's again stripped cleaned and rebuilt using overhaul kits. After it was all wired up, it started first time....I could not believe it,
popped and spluttered a bit but it actually ran and revved pretty well.
Then the problems began, it was dripping fuel from one of the carbs, the one first in the fuel supply (cylinders 3 and 4. I checked the floats, found
them to be correct so presumed the fuel pressure was too high, forcing the fuel past the needle valve. To try to sort this I stuck the standard
mechanical pump back on and tried it. There is no way it will start. Float levels are OK and fuel is reachiing the carbs. Cylinders 1 and 2 seem to be
receving fuel, 3 and 4 dont. If I remove the plugs 1 an 2 are wet 3 and 4 bone dry, spinning the engine over with the plugs out results in fuel vapour
from the front two cyls and nothing from 3 and 4. If I stick plugs back in 1 and 2 it tries to fire, it won't even do this with the rest of the
plugs back in.
Valve and static ignition timing has been checked and appears to be right.
I've tried everything I can think of apart from puting the electric fuel pump back on, I will have to do this to prove a point but this is just
going to take me back to the original problem of fuel leaking into the the venturi and dripping from the carb, I guess.
Anyone got any clues what the hell is going on and what the next step should be, better still anyone near to Warrington / St Helens fancy taking a
look, Free Tea and Coffee gladly exchanged for help.
Thanks,
John

Hi John
I had a similar prob with twin dcoe's, the first carb in the fuel line stopped working
I had used 8mm microbore as the fuel line from the tank, this had small flakes of copper in it from when it was made, these found there way into the
first carb and blocked all the jets
Worth a check?

Check the jets aren't blocked in your rear carbs
