X-flow???

I was at work earlier and got to wandering:-
The Locost was originally designed to use the Escort as the donor car and therefore the x-flow as the donor engine, am i right so far?
Most people now want more power but suppose someone like a student only want a dinky little power plant like a 1300 x-flow which are harder to find now due to their rarity.
I'm sure i have read on more than one occasion that the ford Ka uses a modified version of the x-flow so i and wandering if this little unit can be mated to a type 9 box?? There are loads of Ka's out there and its a cracking little motor.
Your thoughts gentlemen.

The Endura E engine in the Ka is basically a newer version of the X-flow, i think the only major difference is the fuel injection system!

Also IIRC ford engines have has the same gearbox stud mounting holes/pattern for a very long time! The zetec will mate straight up to a type 9 (with the correct release bearings etc) so i see no reason why the Endura shouldnt as well.

1300 crossflows aren't that hard to find...and they're dirt cheap when you do....

Not saying it won't fit but it'll be trouble doing it. The Endura engine has nothing in common with the Crossflow other than superficial looks. There’s no engine mounts suitable for in-line mounting and you'll need to either use the original exhaust manifold or get a one off made as the exhaust ports are different. The original management system would have to be used or a stand-alone ignition system used, as there is no option of using a distributor based system, because there is no dizzy. If you do use it then it’s got 60bhp. The original Crossflow 1300 had 58bhp in standard form and 71bhp in GT form and is very easily tuned to give much more, and you can more or less swap in a 1600 for more power later. Engines based on the Crossflow block (some more loosely than others) can provide 650bhp, depending on budget, as well.

DO NOT PUT ON KNOB OR BOLLOCKS!

X-Flow???

Scotty
I have a 1300 x-flow in a book built Locost built to the ,then race spec of 2001(although never raced). It may only be 1300 but its still a lot of fun.
I am,though ,at present transplanting it all with a Toyota 1600 twincam, so engine, exhaust, and many of the ancillaries will all be available,so U2U me if youre interested.
It has the type 9 on it. I will be keeping the gearbox, but not the bellhousing or clutch.
