Gearbox oil.

Please forgive me if this has been discussed before but I am interested to know what oil people are running in their type 9's.
Are most running the standard 80/90 or do you now run synthetic oil?
If you look in the Halfrauds guide they say mineral for carburated Sierra's and synth for injected.
Interested to know what everybody in locost/seven land is doing.

Once put standard 80/90 oil in a sierra , big mistake. Made gear change and selection hard work had to syphon oil out of filler hole and refill with the correct oil. Can't remember what I put in my box but may be able to check tommorrow as I haven;t any lights in garage at the moment and my torch batteries are dead.

SAE 80 EP

That's what they come with from Ford. Mine has it in and no problems with it. What difference does carbs or injection make to the gearbox?. You've lost me on that one.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

I've no idea what difference carbs or injection make, it's just what Halfrauds say in their book!!!!

The later MT75 box had a particular oil for it and was probably the box fitted to injection cars.It is a thin oil similiar in appearance to autotransmission fluid, I know bcause i bought some by mistake and found out as i was about to pour it in. I used 80/90 for my type 9 box with no problems.

Used a semisynthetic oil in mine , as already stated 80/90 can cause problems and is a pig to get out . Haynes say use semisynthetic if gear selection problems occur.
