Different diffs
I have a sierra diff with bolt on drive shafts and one with plug in drive shafts.
The one with the bolt on's is 14mm wider.
Can you get these the same width as standard plug ins?
The reason I ask is the chassis in my car is made to accept the narrower width and while trying to adapt the bolt on one, I managed to make it
unusable, I would therefore like to get one the narrower width that accepts bolt on drive shafts.
any advise greatly accepted.

This is a bit confusing, as you can get bolt on and push in Sierra diffs in the narrower range.
Think the wider ones are from a Granda?
Won't be hard to find a bolt on diff of narrower proportions.
No doubt Joel will be along soon as he knows more about Sierra diffs than Henry.

the 14mm difference is the difference between a 7" and a 7.5" inch diff. Im not sure if the shafts are interchangable, but it seems
unlikely.

you really need a diff and a pair of shafts from one of the 'normal' sierras with disc brakes. Some models use the 7.5 inch diff, so stick
to a regular 2 litre (or less) or xr4x4 donor.

If I were you I'd pop the flanges out of your 7.5 diff and see if they fit in your 7" diff (compare them with the ends of your push in
shafts). Not had much to do with 7.5 diffs so I dont know if they'll fit, but it's worth a try - take the back off, remove the circlips
holding the flanges in (can be troublesome) and out they come. If they go in your 7" diff your existing shafts will just bolt on (assuming you
haven't picked up a 2WD sierra cossy 7.5" back end).
If this doesn't work you need some flanges that are for a 7" diff. You're pretty unlikely to find these for sale without the diff
still attached - so basically you're looking for a 7" diff for bolt on (called lobro) shafts. Plenty available from bigger engined
sierras (2 litre and up) and in millions of ratios.
Thinking about it you might want to get the shafts with it - your 7.5 has to be from a granada (again assuming its not a 2WD sierra
cossy diff), in which case your existing bolt on shafts may be slightly wider than sierra shafts. However, Sierra/granny difference in shaft length
(and whether or not granny ones, even if wider, will just fit anyway) is unfortunately another one of those things that is unconfirmed within the
knowledge base of this site!

surely the CV joints are bigger on the cossy/granada 7.5" diff anyway, didn;t thing the 6 bolt pcd's were the same (100mm on the 7"
vs 110mm on the 7.5"?????)

Nah only the 2WD sierra cossy has the bigger (108mm) cv joint PCD (and huge thick shafts). Even a 24V scorp cossy granada, with its 7.5" LSD
has the normal sized CVs.

I've been told this wek that the sierra estate was also fitted with a 71/2" diff.
I took the shafts out of the 71/2" and put them in the 7". they fit a treat and still remain the same distance apart from outer flange to
flange.

ive never heard that one, and i once broke an estate and it was all the same, except different trailing arms and istr it was coilover springs on the
back....
Not saying its bollocks, but they definately arent all 7.5"ers.

Thats the one I have, its a beyatch if you lose a half shaft bolt as they are larger than normal as well...
