Knackered sump plug thread
Any suggestions? I can get hold of another sump but I'd like to repair my one if possible.
Cheers
Jon

how knackered? try firstly going through it with a thread tap thingy. If that fails, you could redrill and retap bigger, or weld it up and start
again.

sump
you could braze or weld a 1/2 bsp socket on the sump over the old threaded hole and then use a 1/2 bsp plug with some ptfe tape on to make the seal

Depends on the size but an old trick get hold of a sump plug from a ( real not synthetic) Mini , it has a long tapered BSP thread and will usually
work in most british or american sumps.

I found helicoils to work well. have saved me a few quid over the years. Just depends how much you can get a sump for?

just weld up an nut to the sump with TIG
and use an ordinary bolt to do the trick!
with an pvc/kopper/alu washer...
if needed you can also weld the nut on the innerside of the sump and then you make the seal some bit lower with the bolt head against the pan..
the disadvantage could be that you never can drain the complete oil, but then you could also drill a 3mm hole in the wall of the nut..
Tks
In my alu pan of my BEC i tapered the tread to M12! sow now is there an big bolt head out of the car but it doesn't matter me..

Thank you chaps, some useful tips there, but I've already fixed it now thanks. I drilled and tapped the sump plug to M8 and brazed it in,
Sorted!
