Catalyst or not to catylst?
I'm getting confused over the exact date an engine has to be before a cat 'aint required. Some sources say Aug 95 some appear to say Aug
94. I say appear because they are so wrapped up in mumbo jumbo its almost impossible for a normal (well almost) person to decipher what the dickens
they are saying.
I want to fit a 4.6 Gems rover without a cat anyone know the engine no range I should be looking for?

all the gems equipped engines are catted im afraid 94 is the earliest engine with it fitted. the system was designed to meet the american emission
regs that came in in 97

A mechanic told me once that a well set up engine should pass all emission tests without a cat - I should have a chance to test this theory in the
Spring

It would have a great deal of difficulty in passing the "has it got a Cat" test without one. He is right about emmissions but if it should
have a Cat then a Cat it must have and is a separate test.
