Type 9 gearbox

Hello,

Would a ford type 9 (sierra I believe) gearbox cope with the torque of a RV8

Not for very long!. You need to be looking for a Borg Warner T5, as used on the V8 TVR's and Sierra Cosworths.

You could try an MT75 Sierra box. My mate had a RV8 in his Tranny, with an MT75, but he did have a bit of prop trouble. The gearbox was from a petrol Tranny and lasted as long as he ran the van, which in truth was only about 6 months. He found the van in a local scrappers with a knacked engine, and as he had a RV8 kicking about though why not? He found out why not every time it ran out of petrol over two days. Van returned from whence it came, minus engine and adapter plate.

Before anybody asks about the adapter plate, it was sold to Graceland for his on/off V8 project.
