got no spark?
hi i have a 2.0L pinto with twin webber
carbbs all the ignition circuit is all dune
to the book(tiger Avon book) i have put
a new coil on .but there is not a spark at the plugs there is petrol geting to the spark plugs i have cleaned inside the dizzy cap contact points and
cleaned the rotor arm but still no spark please help!!

first thing to do, is connect one of your HT Leads direct to the coil(i.e miss out the dizzy), if you still dont get a spark,the problem is not with
you dizzy, if you do get a spark, then the fault is with your dizzy.

Has it been running or is this a first time start after installation?
If it is a first time start up you should check all your wiring first.
Is power getting to the points? do you get a spark at the points if you flick them open?
Is there a spark at the king lead from the coil (hold it with insulated pliers near the engine block to see if there is a spark when the engine is
turned over)
Are all the components new? points condensor plugs etc?
Damp plugs can stop a car starting in this weather....
Loads of things to try

no the car was runing for a second or two then stop but that was it .now it will not spark at all . i will try what mookaloid said its a new coil so
it should work

Just because its new doesnt mean it works. If it ran and stopped have your points slipped? A wire loose and fell off?

i have took the dizzy cap of and it has not got points its a electonic type i think

i have dune what Rayward said and still no spark i tryed all the HT leads still no luck and now iam lost what to do next?

Check for power at coil + look for battery voltage minus possibly 1 v . Is distributor turning when engine is cranked over? if not check timing belt .
Was it a s/h distributor ? maybe faulty module (possibly small black box on side of distributor) Try substitute? test wiring between coil and
distributor and distributor earth

i know it was S/H but i kwow were it came from and it was working ok so i will remove the dizzy cap and turn the engine over and see if the thing is
going round .if it is not then what? if it is and still no spark then what?

if you removed the main lead and held it against <edit> near <edit> the block, and it still didnt spark, then forget looking at the
distributor, its the electrics further back. Test the voltage at the coil as recommended above, if you have a voltage and are sure its the right way
round, your coil is probably the fault.

i am lost what you are trying to say are you saying take the black plug that gose to the Distributor apart and test this for a voltage ?

you need to test your coil, connect an HT lead(with spark plug) to the HT lead connection on your coil, connect +12v on the coil to the battery +ve
using a spare piece of cable, get a friend to using a jump lead connect the metal spark plug body to battery negative, use another spare piece of wire
connect the -ve connection on the coil to the battery -ve,only do this for 2-3 seconds, when you DISCONNECT the -ve to the coil you should get a spark
at the plug.
