Honda Civic

Hello all. I took a H22 from a honda prelude (2.2L) and put it into my civic (1.6L). I have had problems getting it running properly. Can anyone tell me where I can a mechanic to work on my vehicle. I live in Newmarket, Suffolk. I ask because it has been nearly 1 1/2 years since I started and i have not suceeded? Let me know. I might just sell it though.

i dont know formeacahnic in your area.. but i have swap some honda engines..

maybe i can help.. what's the set up, car engine etc

I have a Jap spec H22A (from a Prelude) in my 97 Civic. The engine runs but you can not put the car in gear with the car on. If the car is off you c an go through the gears. Not only that the timing belt slowly slides off the gears. This is the second engine I have used (first one the timing belt snapped because of it). I really need someone to work on it because I am about out of go juice if you know what I mean. The worst part is it was my wifes car, and sice I broke her car she drives my baby!

You might try asking for help on http://www.hondarevolutions.com , there are a few members who seem to know what they are talking about and this conversion is relatively popular.

The issue with the gearbox sounds very much like the clutch isn't releasing properly, is it hydraulic? If so are you sure there is no air in the system?

The timing belt coming off the pulleys is obviously due to something being out of alignment, my money would be on a tensioner or idler not being correctly installed.

Most of the hondas that I've worked on have been cable clutch , if so check clutch clearance if you haven't already done so .If the car has been standing for 1 1/2 years there's a pretty good chance the clutch plate may have siezed to the flywheel . If that is the case try starting the engine in gear with your foot on the clutch AFTER making sure nothing is in the way if it starts and drives off. As a last resort you may have to take the gearbox off to get at the clutch . I have had success after jamming clutch pedal down and spraying WD40 into bell housing , obviously you need to get timing belt problem sorted first

I am not convinced that it is the tensioner as I have whent through two tensioners and 3 timing belts. I have also removed the balance shaft belt. The gears are cable operated, but obviously the slave cylinder is hydraulic. There is no air in the system. The clutch is an ACT clutch with a Streetlight Fly wheel. If it was stuck could you still car the in neutral? I have started the car with the car in gear and the clutch down. When you try to release the clutch it dies. I hope i dont have to take of the gearbox. I will have to pull the whole engine out again because the tranny sits on the frame. Thanks for the help and keep the comments comming.

If you can start the engine when in gear andyour foot on the clutch without the car trying to drive then the clutch plate isn't stuck . If you can't engage gear with the engine running then the clutch is not clearing. Is the clutch free play adjustable?

I dont know what clutch free play is so I am no help there. Some have suggested the throwout bearing is not on right but i dont know. when the car is started and it is NOT in gear, and you try to force it into gear, the dies!

are you 100% sure the clutch and transmission are good? seem like it's the problem...

When I switched from my first engine to my second engine the Tranny was working fine. I know the clutch is good, it might have a mere 200 miles on it. Couldnt the throw out bearing be installed wrong or something?
