Valve train noise

Just recently fitted a new Injection Head ( ported) and a Newman Phase 4 cam with long carbide tipped followers to my 2 litre Pinto. Along with new Springs new ball studs etc. Head had new bearings etc.
Performance is amazing now lots of power and it wants to rev so much more. Only problem is the "tappet" noise once it's warm seems excessive to me. Have set the clearances and checked a number of times, which are all OK. Spoke to Newmans who said the high lift of the cam and the tipped followers will make more noise and to try reducing valve clearnaces by .002" and set when hot rather than cold?
Has anyone had a similar problem?
Nest step is Throttle Bodies and megasquirt!!!!!
