Type 9 - which donor?
As the title - what sort of donor can I get this out of. I am 99% sure I want a zetec and after reading all the arguments - this seems the most
flexible way.
I would rather buy a donor than parts as I obviously need uprights/brakes/diff/prop/column etc. and this seems the cheapest way.
Thanks, David.

Early sierra. If the box is relatively smooth on the outside, it's a type 9, if it's a ribbed case and bellhousing, it's an MT75.
You could also try a late model 4 cylinder Capri - around B reg - ish.

pre 90 is most guaranteed, or newer with a crap engine. Avoid later 2 litres etc, as these are much more likely to have mt75.
I believe the position of the reverse is different on the two, cant be sure which way though. (mt75 lift and right, t9 press and left?) So easy to
check.

type 9 is definitely press and top left. therefore if it's not there, it's not a type 9.

"newer with a crap engine" suits me. Are you talking 1.8 CVH or 1.6 PINTO?

i have an 89 1600 pinto with a t9, so id start there. Then again, i think both are.
The reverse position is more reliable though.

I took one out of a G plate 1800 Sierra
Most reliable method.
Reverse Top Left - Type 9
Reverse Bottom Right - MT75

Or 'kin huge MT75.
'kin heavy Type 9.
Type Nine has a removeable bellhousing, MT75 has not.
DO NOT PUT ON KNOB OR BOLLOCKS!

I've just cut this from the zetecinside site in the gearbox section.
Type 9 Type 9
The Type 9 was Fords first RWD five speed box, and based on the Type E. This gearbox is commonly used for 5 speed conversions on older vehicles. Some
later versions were available with integral bellhousings, although they are more commonly found with removable bellhousings. A 4wd version of this box
was also available for the early XR4x4 models. Power rating: Approx 200BHP
Fitted in:
Capri 1.6/2.0 02/83 on
Capri 2.8 11/82 on
Sierra 1.6/1.8/2.0 to 12/88
Sierra XR4i
Sierra XR4x4 2.8

The V6 2.8 boxes will have a deeper bellhousing and longer input shaft so avoid them. I think they are confusing the two when they say the T9 is later
available with integral bellhousing.

yours, Pete
I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.
