is crossflow oil pump self priming?

From what it says in Haynes I think it is; or do the gears need stuffing with vaseline (ooh err ) like the v8 oil pump?

Even so, I can't see why it would hurt to do that unless someone knows otherwise......

Just a squirt of oil before you put it on it --- the oils system is much less complex than the RV8

You can prime it just by spinning over with the plugs out but it's good practice to stuff it with vaseline first.

Also helps if you fill the filter with oil prior to fitting...

If you want to go further squirt oil in the oil pressure switch hole.

Yes

I agree, just a squirt of oil and off you go. I had no problems with mine when I upgraded it to a high pressure pump on a 1700 xflow.

I filled mine completely - topped up the oil filter then screwed it on, then poured oil down the oilway while rotating the drive cog. It's amazing how much it takes! I then bolted the pump to the black.

Everyone's got their own method, but this worked for me. The only downside is that you spill oil when you line the pump up ready for bolting...
