Sierra Ignition

Am I right in thinking all sierras had electronic ignition? (Certainly looks that way from the Haynes manual)

Some of the later ignition modules look rather complex (ESC2 for example) and have loads of stuff/connections not needed on a locost.

The simplest one looks to be the very early (pre 1985) module with only 6 connections. But these are probably hard to get hold of now...?

I am just thinking about incorporating the sierra ignition system into my mk2 Escort loom, looks easy on the older systems, but could be quite a PITA on the later ones. Are the electronic ignitions actually much better than a points system? (Surely the distributor from an older pinto can be substituted to avoid electronic ignition entirely?)

Cheers,
David
