Am I missing something?!
Hi guys, just got a vfr800 bike engine and I wanted to check its all ok so i set it up on my bench, wired round all the necessaries and turned it
over. It just kept turning but didnt fire! The fuel pump i have is working, checked that. Havent checked the plugs but there was the very occasional
pop. I havent got the exhaust manifold but i figure it should still fire before cutting out? It doesnt seem to be taking much fuel but there are small
puffs of smoke (i guess unburnt fuel) coming out of the exhausts. Do I need to wire around the exhaust sensors? could it be the lack of exhaust
manifold? It has been sat for a while by the looks of it so do i just keep turning it over? any thoughts much welcomed! cheers guys!!

first check would be the wiring in my books, check you have correctly bypassed the neutral, clutch and sidestand switches, and any imobilisers.

it wouldnt turn over if i hadnt would it? with the side stand switch open it wont even turn over. all of the others above Ive wired round except the
neutral switch. i figured with the clutch switch in, it should think the clutch is down and run?

Puffs of smoke is a good sign that its trying to fire id pull out the plugs and give um a clean

Has it got 2 coils? Check they are connected to the right plugs it might be firing on the wrong stroke. If you had an exhaust on there would probably
be some almighty backfires to let you know.
yours, Pete
I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Might be worth thinking about not firing it without an exhuast, I seem to remember some nasty stories from where people have done this!!
The engine would turn over but would not fire if one of the safety mechanisms is in place as the spark will be cut so it will tun over but not
fire.

just aquired an exhaust but once id fitted it and tried it, same, a few bangs then cut out. Thinking about it this morning tho over the coffee
machine, the speed sensor is on the sprocket and engine was in gear so even tho it thinks the clutch is in and the side stand is up, I reckon it could
be seeing the cog going round and ecu deciding it not a good idea! does that sound plausible?! wana go home now and test my theory! not fair!

Hi!
I'm your angel!
Wich year is the engine of?
Next time post a link in the BEC section to your bec engine thread..
Well, the VFR rocks without escapes but the noise is very very powerfull and anoying...!!
Check this:
- When you put the contact switch on (c.q. you power the loom) does then the fuel pump starts for 15secs??? or only the relais?
- It wont do this when the kill switch is in kill mode wich means that the coils/injectors/MCU aren't powered.
- Enter error mode, by unpowering the loom, connecting the 2 wires nearby the MCU power the loom, the PGMFI light will flash the code's of the
parts who are wrong.
If there is nothing wrong it will just stay on.
- The engine will only turn over/run when
1) bike in neutral.
2) bike in gear / clutch is pressed (will start BUT NOT RUN, WILL STALL WHEN BECOMEING IN GEAR- when losing Neutral signal)
3) side stand up and clutch or sidestand up and neutral
I brought the hayness manual of the bike
sow can help you.
Regards,
Tks
