Stainless Exhaust Parts

I have been doing a bit of research on exhaust bits as I will be needing to start building my manifold soon.

The big problem that I have had is finding somebody with 1.75" 90 degree bends in stainless at a sensible price.

I have now spoken to these folks, who have quoted a nice price for 16 off 1.75" 90 degree mandrel bends in 16swg 304 stainless.

If you are looking for any stainless exhaust bits at VERY good prices I recommend you give them a call, very friendly and knowledgeable setup it would seem! They also make stuff for a leading kit manufacturer.

PS in conversation it came up that they have a repackable stainless can available at the mo, 700mm casing length, 6.5" diameter, at a very good price again as a one off. Again it is as sold by said leading manufacturer.

I can recomend these people. They are very good indeed and very friendly. The leading manufacturer also send their customers here for aftermarket stuff. And if you have the plans, they'll make just about anything for you. And there head welder is the formula student appointed chief welder, so he certainly knows his stuff.

????16 gauge???

Nat, that might be a bit ott. I would think that 18g would be too much. 20g is about optimum.

Yea, you let me know the dia's and lengths, cheers.

PS I did enquire about a price on a full manifold from them and it was comparable to simpson so don't worry!

Basically the same as the westifled bulk buy (in conjunction with advise from Matt Simpson) which is based on the SBD system, namely approx 29" x 1 7/8" primaries, 10" x 2 1/8" secondaries with 2 3/4" outlet/silencer.

I did toy with the idea of 2 1/4" secondaries but matt thought it a bit OTT for my engine spec. He also mentioned that he thought 2 3/4" for the outlet was large and that 2 1/2 would probably be sufficient but thought I'd go slightly larger as I may change the cams in due course..

Hopefully it'll be ready for collection at the weekend.

Ned.

I have just bought a handfull of 2" stainless 90* 2x1 bends from a local firm. It cost me £6 per bend and £8/m of polished SS tube.
I have no idea if I was ripped off but another company wanted £12 per bend.
As the company had to order in for me I had to pay £6 p&p and I did pay cash.....

no thats a nice price, but 2" is easy to get as "hygienic stainless bends" are available off the shelf, but they go 1", 1.5", 2", 2.5" and 3"

I need 1.75" for my primaries (as do most engines making over 175hp) which instantly doubles the cost as they have to be mandrel bent to order.

I thought about 2" primaries but these are too big and will lose loads of torque, ok on 240hp plus but too big for my dainty 200hp!

Went down to SDW fabrication today, what a SUPERB outfit!!!

Just the sort of people that I like to deal with, and I guess many on here would too.

Really friendly, plenty of knowledge but still down to earth and a real world workshop with proper clutter!!!

Saw an original big block cobra in for a spaceframe job (never knew the chassis was just two big tubes, crikey!!!) they were cutting holes in the ally body for the cage

Really helpful though an I cannot recommend enough. I paid a LOT less than I thought, now I have basically enough bits for at least 1 1/2 manifolds, so plenty of error bits! I was going to work entirely from 90 deg bends, but steve there persuaded me to have some 150 deg and 180 deg too, and also cajoled me into making tubular collectors (as used by SDW and Simpson) instead of sheet fabricated ones, and drew up how to make them for me, then bent the tube for me to make them from, basically FOC.

A tremendous place, not an internet off-the-shelf place but a turn up, find your way in and have a coffee and a chat in the workshop while your bits are done type place, where pricing is personal and workmanship is exceptional.

Lots of Inconel F1 and aircraft stuff there too so interesting to say the least!

Definitely agree with that. I've popped in before just for random bits of advice and sat for 45 mins having a chat. Only problem is finding your way in! The 'front' door looks like the back door, but they certainly know their stuff.
