136 teeth

The steel flywheel on my Zetec has a ring gear with 136 teeth on it, number (if I read it correctly) 70HM6384EA.

Any ideas what car the ring gear was originally fitted to?

I haven't a clue, but the part number you quote does mean that the part was first used by Ford in 1970!!

I have had no end of problems with starters on this car, hence I am trying to work out which one I need.

I think the ring gear may be off a crossflow with inertia starter.

Hi Westie, 136 tooth ring gear is for pre engaged type starter, 110 tooth ring gear is for inertia type starter. pre engaged type are straight cut teeth, inertia set up has lead in bevel on teeth.cheers davef.

Hi Westie, re flywheel ring gear on second thoughts i think the pre engaged type is 135 teeth not 136, iv,e got one on my xflow and i whent through the same confusion a few weeks ago and Hornet confirmed it for me. as for the 132 tooth ring gear i have no idea where that comes from. cheers davef.

My stylus has got a 1800 Zetec in it, But I've no idea how many teeth the ring gear has on it. I' using a granada 2000 DOHC starter which seems OK but the car does'nt get used much !

Are you using a ford Flywheel or is it a raceline Billet Steel jobby ???. I know that the (expensiove) raceline item is designed to use a Xflo starter which might explain how a Xflow ring gear got on a Zetec, wheras the Scrapyard conversion using the Zetec flywheel uses a Sierra CVH / DOHC Starter.

Regarding part numbers you could allways give Ford Technical a ring ? They seem pretty good with this sort of thing. ( Sorry i don't have their number but your local Ford Eurobox dealer should be able to give you it )
