gts panels here at last

hi all i finally recieved my panels from gts today. i was waiting for bout 9 weeks for these panels, darren is a hard man to contact, also my panels were delayed for some time due to a side panel error. any hows i ordered the locost panels as i like the look of the lowline panels. however i was not that happy about the quality of the panels but they are fibreglass so i knew they wouldnt be 100%
with a little bit of work they should come up ok.
also does anyone have advice on fitting the rear panel as it looks a damm tight fit and dont wanna mess it up?? also how much did everyone pay for their panels? as i see trioton are doin them for 650 deliverd which i am really gutted about as mine cost MORE!!

thanks Rob

I'm not exactly speedy at getting things out the door just recently either but I hate to send out something I wouldn't be happy to use.

So I mess about with wet n dry if need be prior to cutting paste and a good whizz with the buffer.

Go thru the grades to about 1200/1500 then hit the panels with some G6 and a good lambswool bonnet thing on a slow buffer......Bling city but it's hard on the elbow grease and no mistake

Re fitting of rear panel, I too have a set of GTS panels & this one was particularly tight. There was no way the top flange was going to fit over the round section tube as the internal measure of the top flange is considerably less that the tube its supposed to fit over. My solution was a bit of a lash up but as its covered with the panel & doesn't show, I felt it was easier to cut away some of the top tube to allow the rear panel to sit down where it should. In the end, I ended up cutting away about the top two thirds of the tube but the rear panel now sits perfectly. Doing this had the added benefit of allowing the bottom flange to fit under the bottom rearmost rail comfortably whereas previously there was no way this would have fitted. Hope this helps.

you do body sets !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

bl**dy hell!

mumble grumble, i really didn't need to hear that. Keep going round to NS Dev (Nat's) house and looking at his dash.

I really want something that maintains the original locost profile (aka, caterham / Stuart Taylor sizes of bonnet & nose).

What would i be looking at for ......

post office / bright red nose, bonnet, scuttle, rear panel

black, front and rear wheel arches to cover 185x13's?

and have you got any pictures of stuff fitting together, nose / bonnet scuttle & rear panel & rear arches, ali size etc.

suppose we'd be better doing this in U2U.

Those back panels are not really meant to be used with any steel work done as per book....better to buy the back panel then make the steel work fit the panel then weld that on.
The GTS doesn't have that top tube anyway.

No pictures as yet, too busy running round in circles with my head up my 'arris to know what day it is let alone remember which box I packed the camera in.....But soon very soon.

And yes it's low line stylee as that's prettier

saves me asking the question of should i cut off the back rail cos the rear panel is never goin to fit on with the round tube in place, and mr triton is right as gts have no rear rail, so out will come the grinder tomo. also these side panels look a pig to line up.

oh well its gotta be done

Holes for the 'bones are easy to do..
Take dims from chassis then transfer them to the side panel but only cut a small hole first then open them up when you are happy all is tickety boo...

fit the panels then do the wet n dry/polishing trick as it will be a lot easier to do especially the wings which have a habit of flying off the table when you are polishing them

Just recently done mine. Not too bad to do.

Basically I put the panels on, align the bends in the banel with the bend in the chassis. Then using a marker pen draw (on the inside) around where it needs trimming for the trailiing arms.

Once thats all fine do the same for the bone holes, start small and keep retrying. I used a combination of square cuts and a hole saw but you can use a hole saw for all of them.

I would do the rear trimming on each individually then for the front lay the one side on the other and using it as a template draw around the holes which you have cut to give you where to cut in the other side.

Its a bit of a pain to keep taking the panels on and off to try your cuts but you want to get it right.

I just have the front to trim to clear the nose cone which I am not looking forward to cocking up!

Good luck.

Nosecone to side panels...
You should be able to use the chassis as a guide to get the angle of the cut right as the nosecone sits quite close to the front chassis bulkhead....or it least it used to
