gearbox

Trying to drop the replacement xflow in and mate with the 4speed standard box.

Now, i need hints on why the two won't fit together. Clutch has been aligned, and realigned it looks sweet. It goes half way in then will not budge. The gearbox and engine look level with each other....i dont know any reasons why the two wont slide together

Any suggestions before I end up calling a mechanic out? Been bashing and swearing at this for the last 2 hours now

Have you put a new clutch friction plate in? Has it got the right number of splines?

If I fit a new clutch I always try the friction plate on the output shaft before fitting to make sure I have been supplied with the right one.

finding out when trying to mate the box and engine that it's wrong is a right pain in the a***

HTH

Try pulling on the handbrake , put into gear , use a spanner, socket onto crank pulley bolt and rotate engine when pushing towards the gearbox. If the clutch is aligned and the gearbox to engine gap is even it will go in.

i had this problem - took ages, one of the issues was the splines where not lining up like mentioned i some how fluked teeth to teeth spot on instead of teeth to gap. twiddled the output shaft and hey presto.

Although getting it really level seems to be the key.

One trick i think we did was to loosen the clutch a smidgen - to allow a little movement, put it on, then pulled it off, tightened the nuts then it slid straight on.

(does that sound rude or is it just my warped mind?)

have tried turning crack, will try while i push engine to clutch (once ive got a spare set of hands to help out)

Also was thinking can reach the clutch nuts thru the gap for the starter motor, so could loosen off clutch, push in and then try to tighten. I can reach the nuts with a socket...whether i can tighten them is another question altogether

Ok tried turning the crank n didnt get anywhere tbh

Also decided cannot tighten clutch while in place, so going to have a breather and try the idea off puttin in while clutch is loose then remove and tighten the clutch...

(1) take the gearbox out.
(2) Remove clutch
(3) Check the crank spigot bearing hasn't been damaged and is the right size for your gearbox.
(4) Check clutch driven plate fits easily on gearbox splines if not clean and "dress" the splines.
(5) Align clutch woth a proper close fitting RWD alighment tool.
(6) Jack the engine to allow the gearbox to be offered up in a straight on angle.
(7) Put gearbox in a high gear
(8)Offer gearbox into place rocking it gently.
(10) If it dosen't go into place easily try putting the propshaft in to allow you to tun the gearbox by stick a screw driver through the shaft yoke.

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES TRY TO PULL THE BOX IN BY THE BOLTS.
