Polo Thermostats

What termperature does the polo rad thermostat switch at? It hadnt switched at 100C and i got too nervous to wait any longer, turning the fan on manually brought the temperature back down though.

Cheers

I think it's about 88C. Mine certainly cuts in before 100C

Pull it out, stick it in an old (or clean it thoroughly!) kettle. Measure the resistance (and with a thermometer in the water) and see at what point it changes.
Hassle, but might work if no one's got the data.

James

On my 1300 X-flow using a Micra radiator, the water in the head would boil long before the radiator got hot enough for the fan switch to switch the fan on.
Rewired using a Fiesta thermostat housing and fan switch and it now works great.

Ive got 2.0 pinto and digidash. Micra rad with std fan switch. Water temp sender in head in normal location.

Fan cuts in when DD2 records 97deg and back off again at 94deg.

Temps you observe when comparing to other peoples are partly dependant on sender type, condition and location and also what the dash unit is (digital or analogue etc).

When i first started to run engine i had problem with fan thermostat switch due to not wiring it corrctly.

don't think you've got the duel temp sender i got.

Mine does something like 88 and 9?. I'd expect yours to do mid to high 90's.

kettle is the best bet in case its resistance is not matched to your sender (or are you using the sender in the block - which also might not be matched to your clock - test that as well in the kettle / pan of water.)

not sure if you got the mail, stuff posted today guarenteed delivery tomorrow

In the end i've got a fiesta one to go in the thermostat housing, just in case.

I boiled some water, and the polo one opened at 96 if anybody is interested.

Looks like the water wasnt getting that hot by the time it got to the wotsit.

Temp the fan switch should be rated at really depends on the location some manufacturers put the switch in the cylinder at the head, others in the rad top tank other at the top of the rad matrix other lower down.

If the switch is in the top of the rad or at the thermostat housing 93 to 97 c is OK (the coolant shouldn't boil untill about 110c) , if the switch is fitted lower down the rad matrix 85c is nearer the mark.

On some of the bigger Rovers they used two radiator fans controlled by seperate switches mounted at different levels, the second fan controlled by the lower switch would only cut under extreme conditions.

Which wiring harness?

My mate had a Premier loom and the terminals in the plug didn't match the ones on the radiator stat so it was never going to come on. They were in the wrong position so we had to pull one out and swap it over, it caused some serious head scratching though.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.
